Kerry County Council has done everything to progress the Tralee-Fenit Greenway which is due to be completed in autumn next year.

That’s according to Mayor of Tralee, Labour Cllr Terry O'Brien, who was responding to a petition calling for action on the project.

An open letter to the council was published in this week’s Kerryman newspaper, and supported by 53 businesses, clubs, and groups, stating that the Greenway must be finished by next summer.

Cllr O’Brien, however, says because of the restrictions on space along the line, the project can’t proceed any faster; he also notes it’s a priority for the council.

Meanwhile the Tralee Mayor says he understands concerns about a funfair opening in the town tomorrow.

Birds Euroshow will operate at on the Dan Spring Road, but the organisers feel their earlier closing time will stop teenagers gathering.

Tralee CBS the Green has written to parents, advising them to discourage students from going to the funfair, and Mercy Mounthawk Secondary School is asking young people not to congregate in large groups.

Cllr O'Brien understands the concerns, but says funfairs in other locations haven’t resulted in outbreaks, and he’s urging parents to know where their teenagers are.
