Up to twenty mobile phone users in North Kerry have received calls from scammers purporting to act on behalf of the Gardaí.
The issue came to light yesterday, when Gardaí in Listowel received a number of complaints from members of the public.
The calls came from an Irish mobile phone number and once answered, the recipient was told by an automated message, that they'd been the victim of a Garda fraud.
Personal information was then requested.
Sgt Diarmaid O'Brien from Listowel Gardaí said the scam only seemed to have occurred in North Kerry, which was unusual.
He said anyone who received such a call, should hang up straight away, or else block the number:
