The Killarney Town Centre Retail Action Group says the parking situation in the town must be resolved once and for all.
The comments come as it welcomed the return of Bird’s Euroshow Funfair back to the town.
Last week, Killarney Chamber of Tourism and Commerce said another site should be found for the funfair given the pressure on parking and space in the town.
Following agreement with Kerry County Council, Birds Euroshow Funfair has begun to set up in its regular site at the Fair Hill car park.
Killarney Town Centre Retail Action Group extended a warm welcome to the funfair which it says has been part of the history of the town for many years.
It described the chamber statement as hypocrisy when parking spaces have been removed around the town over the last number of years.
It also pointed to the recent large congregations of people on Main Street and New Street car park.
The group said the funfair will bring a much-needed family atmosphere to the town centre.
It asked whether the council could consider setting up temporary parking sites similar to those used for large events such as the Munster Final or find a solution once and for all to the parking situation in Killarney.
The group also expressed disappointment at the decision to close Main Street to traffic at weekends this summer, which it fears will lead to excessive anti-social behaviour and a loss of trade.
