A Killarney restaurateur has told an Oireachtas committee that there will be widespread closures of pubs and restaurants if the government proceeds with its current plans.
Speaking before the Oireachtas media committee, Paul Treyvaud said rural areas will be particularly hit by closures, although cities will be affected too.
Mr Treyvaud, who owns Treyvaud's Restaurant in Killarney, believes a lump sum and tax amnesty may be needed from government to keep hospitality businesses afloat.
He says the most important thing that needs to be done for the hospitality sector is allow pubs and restaurants to open up straight away.
