Killarney councillors have voiced their concerns about pedestrian crossings on the outskirts of the town.
Labour councillor Marie Moloney brought a motion, asking the council to contact Transport Infrastructure Ireland and request that the crossings at the Cleeney Road roundabout be relocated.
There are a number of crossings close to the roundabout adjacent to Lidl.
At the municipal district meeting, Councillor Marie Moloney said she couldn't understand the engineering behind placing a pedestrian crossing just off a roundabout; she says a similar situation also exists on the Daly's side of the bypass.
She asked the council to contact Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) and request that the crossing at the Cleeney Road roundabout be moved.
She says, sadly, it will come too late as a life has already been lost at the location.
Other members also voiced their concerns: Independent councillor Donal Grady said he had asked before for the pedestrian crossing to be moved 40 metres back from the roundabout, but this was turned down by TII; and Cathaoirleach Brendan Cronin said sloped, overhead ramps should be considered for pedestrians.
In response, the council says it'll undertake a review of the crossings, one of which is the subject of a garda investigation following a fatal road traffic incident.
