A Killarney councillor has asked for a temporary measure to protect road users at one of the county's most dangerous junctions.
Speaking at the municipal district meeting, Labour councillor Marie Moloney asked the council to consider implementing restrictions on turning at the Lewis Road junction.
The Lewis Road junction along the Killarney bypass has been the scene of many accidents in recent years.
Labour councillor Marie Moloney asked the council to consider implementing a left-only turn at the junction.
She says this would require people coming from Kilcummin to drive to the end of the bypass on the Daly's side, while those travelling up Lewis Road would have to go to the Cleeney Road (Tralee Road) roundabout.
This would end the practice of vehicles trying to cross the Killarney bypass.
Councillor Moloney says, as is, she's waiting for more accidents to happen at the Lewis Road junction.
The council says the development of safety measures at the junction was approved, however, it's now subject to a judicial review in the High Court; when this is complete, the development will resume.
Independent Alliance councillor Michael Gleeson supported the motion, adding he asked for something similar previously but issues arose due to cyclists being required to adhere to the left-only turn as well.
