Kerry was once again the wettest part of the country during October.
Met Éireann’s Climate Statement for last month wrote that October was relatively dry for most of the country, except for the southwest which saw above average rainfall.
The south west of the country came in for a particularly wet October, especially compared to the rest of the country.
Met Éireann notes that the majority of weather stations, outside of the southwest, had their driest October for 6-8 years.
Kerry’s weather station at Valentia Observatory, however, recorded the highest amount of rainfall at 202 millimetres for the month, which is higher than its long-term average rainfall for this time of year.
As well as this, Valentia had the highest number of very wet days, with six, and the joint-highest number of wet days with 21.
A wet day is a day with 1.0 mm or more of rainfall, and a very wet day is one with 10.0 mm or more of rainfall.
Valentia also had the lowest number of total sunshine hours of all stations with 67.3.
Daily temperatures at Valentia fluctuated during the month, with values as high as 17 degrees in the first and third weeks, and temperatures down to three degrees during the second week of October.
Met Éireann also recorded eight dull days at Valentia during October.
