A Kerry teenager has lost out on an apprenticeship as his driver theory test has been cancelled six times due to the pandemic.
Anthony Lyne from Barraduff says his son Josh (18) has been trying to sit his driver theory test for months.
Josh, who is a Leaving Certificate student, is working part-time for an electrician and has been offered work after school.
However, he can’t take up the work as he hasn’t yet been able to sit his driver theory test and he needs to be able to drive for this work.
Radio Kerry contacted the company that runs the theory test for a comment but has yet to receive a reply.
Mr Lyne says he is willing to travel anywhere in the country if a testing centre can facilitate his son:
Meanwhile, Independent TD Danny Healy-Rae has raised the issue in the Dáil.
Deputy Healy-Rae says he has written to the Tánaiste and Minister for Transport for an update on Josh’s case again and is calling on Taoiseach Micheál Martin to intervene and resolve the issue.
