A teenage boy from Kerry has been found not guilty by direction of a trial judge of raping a four-year-old boy.
The teenager was 14 at the time of the alleged incident.
The Irish Examiner reports that following the closure of the prosecution case at the Central Criminal Court sitting in Cork the defence made a submission that there were conflicts in the prosecution evidence.
Barrister Colman Cody added it would be unsafe to put the case to the jury.
After considering the application, Ms Justice Eileen Creedon brought the jury back and directed them to enter a not-guilty verdict by direction of the trial judge.
