Kerry TD Pa Daly says we’re facing a skills crisis in the construction industry in the county.
The Sinn Féin TD said the number of plasterers, brick layers and block layers in Kerry is in decline, with many of them in their 50s. Deputy Daly said we need to build houses to alleviate the chronic issues in housing, but he said any investment will be endangered if we don’t have the skills available to carry out the work.
The Tralee TD said he’s been in discussions with Kerry ETB to expand the number of training courses around the county. He said this would not only increase the skill set among young people but would breathe extra life into towns around Kerry trying to recover from the pandemic.
