A Kerry TD says a shortage of staff in Tusla in Kerry must be remedied.
Sinn Féin’s Pa Daly was speaking after an internal review by the child and family agency found it failed to refer 365 cases of suspected child abuse in Kerry to gardaí for investigation.
Of these, 122 cases related to suspected abuse of children currently aged under 18; the remainder were adults disclosing alleged abuse that happened to them as children.
Nineteen cases were high priority, and 115 were deemed medium priority.
Tusla says all cases have now been referred to gardaí, and the organisation in Kerry has been provided with additional staff, and measures are in place to improve governance and oversight.
Deputy Pa Daly hopes this has solved the problem, and that an issue like this won’t occur again.
