Kerry TD Pa Daly says Sinn Féin wants an end to direct provision and a reform of the overall asylum system.
His comments follow today’s Dáil debate on the Government’s White Paper to end the 20-year-old direct provision system.
Deputy Daly, who’s the party’s law reform, equality, and integration spokesperson, welcomed the move towards own door accommodation.
He said forcing residents to share cramped accommodation created a serious public health hazard and an unconscionable situation in Cahersiveen last year.
He also welcomed the move away from long delays in processing children and families.
The Tralee TD said the Government must now honour the commitments it has made.
