A Kerry TD has outlined what green measures he believes should be included in the Climate Action Bill.
Independent deputy Michael Healy-Rae was voicing his opposition to the proposed bill, which is being debated in the Dáil today.
He says he’s not a climate change denier, however, he’d like to have seen measures introduced such as zero VAT on insulation materials for homes and making public transport free in some areas.
Deputy Healy-Rae claims the Climate Action Bill will reduce the national herd by 50%, which is disproportionate, considering Ireland only accounts for 0.1% of global carbon emissions.
He adds the tourism industry will be hit by carbon charges on flights.
