A Kerry TD claims the school transport system is broken.
Independent deputy Danny Healy-Rae says he knows almost 100 children who’re without tickets and their families cannot get into contact with Bus Eireann; these include those who’ve paid already or have medical cards.
He says since 50% capacity restrictions were announced for secondary school buses, it’s become very difficult to contact Bus Eireann.
Deputy Healy-Rae is calling on the Minister for Education to sort out issues with school transport.
In response, Bus Eireann says tickets are being processed and the small proportion outstanding should be received in the post shortly.
Tickets are currently being issued to all eligible families, who had paid by the extended deadline of 4th August, and for those concessionary families who had paid and were successful in securing a place.
Unsuccessful applicants are entitled to a refund and these are being processed weekly.
