A Kerry TD is calling on the government to extend the closing date for claims to be made to the CervicalCheck Tribunal until 2025.
Government last week agreed to extend the deadline for claims to be made until January 26th next year, with the option to extend it further to July 26th 2022.
In the Dáil this week, Independent TD Danny Healy-Rae said he cannot understand why the government is cutting the time so tight in extending the deadline, as some women may live longer and come forward later.
Deputy Healy-Rae adds it's not a grant for which farmers are applying, that it's a serious matter and these women are entitled to get retribution, be shown respect and be treated properly in light of wrongs done to them.
The Independent TD is asking the government to extend the deadline for a couple of years to give women the chance to come forward, and ensure they're treated fairly, as it's a desperate scenario.
