A Kerry TD is calling for constant and comprehensive farm safety messaging.
This week is Farm Safety Week across Ireland and the UK, and Fine Gael TD and Deputy Government Chief Whip Brendan Griffin says safety messaging is needed to avoid complacency on farms.
In the Dáil, Deputy Griffin said he would welcome a comprehensive, all-encompassing approach to farm safety from the Department of Agriculture.
The Fine Gael TD added safety should be central to all messaging, and constant reminders would help address complacency, which can lead to accidents.
In response, Minister of State for Farm Safety, Martin Heydon, said the Department has a range of measures in place to incentivise farm safety, and every farmer needs to identify and mitigate risks on their farm this summer.
