A Kerry TD has been assured by the transport minister that the backlogs for driver and theory tests will be cleared in the coming months.
Fine Gael TD and Deputy Government Chief Whip Brendan Griffin spoke in the Dáil about the delays to both the driving test and driver theory test.
He said hundreds of people have contacted his office in recent months with concerns over the delays to getting test appointments; currently only driving tests for essential workers are taking place.
Over 100,000 people are waiting to do their test, with almost 3,000 people in Kerry on the list.
Minister for Transport Eamon Ryan said when additional testers are fully trained, driver testing capacity will nearly double.
He added it’s hoped to clear the backlog in both tests in just under four months.
