Two Kerry politicians have now officially bowed out of the Houses of the Oireachtas for the final time.

The conclusion of business of the 33rd Dáil yesterday brought with it the end of the political career of Fine Gael’s Brendan Griffin, who has been a TD for Kerry since 2011.

Deputy Griffin announced in January 2023 that he would not be seeking re-election to the Dáil and he is leaving politics altogether.

Separately, a Seanad election must take place not later than 90 days after the dissolution of the Dáil, and Kerry Fianna Fáil Senator Ned O’Sullivan won't be seeking re-election to Seanad Éireann.

The former Mayor of Kerry, who has been a Senator since 2007, bid farewell to his fellow Oireachtas members in the Seanad yesterday.
