Realising Ireland’s climate action potential depends on the construction of the Celtic Interconnector.
That’s according to Fine Gael MEP Sean Kelly, who’s from Kilcummin.
He says it holds the potential to spark job creation and large-scale investments in renewable energy.
The project will link Ireland’s energy system to that of France, enabling the flow of electricity between the two countries.
The Ireland South MEP describes it as one of the most important projects in the entire European electricity system.
The Kilcummin man says it will deliver better electricity prices, reduce consumer bills and enhance Ireland’s international competitiveness.
MEP Kelly, lead negotiator for the EPP Group on Renewable Energy, says this project will improve the security of electricity supply and will enable us to ramp up our deployment of renewable energy, towards our target of at least 70pc by 2030, while firmly establishing Ireland as a world leader in the sector.
The Fine Gael MEP adds it’ll be the catalyst for enormous investment and job creation in renewable energy.
