A Kerry MEP says the ratification of the EU-UK Trade and Cooperation Agreement is extremely important for the island of Ireland.
The International Trade and Foreign Affairs Committees in the European Parliament this week gave its approval for the EU-UK Trade and Cooperation Agreement (TCA).
MEP Seán Kelly says the decision to give the green light follows many weeks of scrutiny of all aspects of the TCA agreement, while he says no such scrutiny took place in Westminster.
The Fine Gael MEP added the agreement is by no means perfect, but ratification by Parliament will safeguard the level playing field provisions with the UK.
The European Parliament has postponed its final decision on the agreement until the end of April, as it says it needs to see progress on a roadmap for the Withdrawal Agreement, which includes the Northern Ireland Protocol.
