A Kerry MEP says every farm must operate sustainably.
MEP Sean Kelly was speaking about the new Common Agricultural Policy deal which was provisionally agreed between the European Parliament and EU ministers last month.
The new CAP will include higher environmental, climate and animal welfare ambitions that will have to be implemented from January 2023.
Sean Kelly says there will be targets around emissions for every sector in every member state, and these targets should be met.
The Fine Gael MEP adds financial supports will be required for farmers to make necessary changes to meet these targets.
