A Kerry MEP is calling for lifelong care for people living with a rare genetic disease.
MEP Sean Kelly made the call for support for people living with PKU, which is a lifelong genetic disease that affects a person's metabolism.
Over 800 Irish people live with the disease, which requires them to manage a strict, daily dietary therapy to prevent devastating neurological consequences.
International PKU Day takes place this coming Monday, June 28th, with MEP Kelly and the newly-appointed chair of PKU Ireland Bernadette Gilroy among those supporting the cause from the Kingdom.
A virtual panel discussion on the history of PKU and its Irish connection will also be held tomorrow, Sunday June 27th at 7pm, with a link to register for the event available here.
