The Kerry branch of the Irish Farmers’ Association is condemning anyone involved in starting the fire in Killarney National Park.
It says burning at this time of the year should not happen, and if a farmer’s land is burned outside of season, then that farmer loses their payments, even if a fire has spread in from adjoining lands.
Kerry IFA hopes an investigation will identify how this fire started and it’ll offer any assistance required.
It’s appealing to farmers and the general public to be very careful during the current dry conditions.
Kerry IFA also compliments the work of the firefighters, the National Parks and Wildlife Service, council staff and volunteers.
