Staff and management in hotels, guesthouses and self-catering accommodation around the county are welcoming people back this afternoon.
Despite the weather, hoteliers say today’s easing of restrictions marks the beginning of summer.
Most hospitality accommodations have been closed since Christmas, although a small number continued to operate to accommodate essential staff.
Miriam Ferriter, Marketing and Events Manager in Dingle’s Skellig and Benner’s hotels, says today’s reopening is the culmination of considerable behind-the-scenes work in recent weeks.
She says staff in the Skellig hotel are on hand to welcome guests today, while Benner’s will reopen on Friday.
Miriam says coming to work this morning was a great feeling.
Owner of Ballygarry House Hotel in Tralee, Padraig McGillicuddy says being closed over the past five months has been challenging for the entire team.
He says the hotel is fully-booked for this weekend and the summer season is looking fantastic due to strong demand from the domestic market:
