A local councillor has branded the Kerry County Board as ‘short-sighted’ after a schedule clash between the LGFA and GAA resulted in the cancellation of the intermediate ladies county championship final this weekend.
Yesterday afternoon, the Bon Secours Intermediate Ladies final between Scartaglen and MKL Gaels was scheduled to be played in Austin Stack Park at 2pm on Sunday.
However, yesterday evening the Kerry County Board released its fixtures, scheduling the GAA quarter final of the Garveys Senior Championship between East Kerry and St Kierans for the same time and venue.
The Senior Ladies final between Desmonds and Southern Gaels is scheduled to go ahead in Austin Stack Park at 4pm.
The Intermediate Ladies final has yet to be rescheduled. Cllr Charlie Farrelly, who knows people from the parish of Castleisland playing in each of the matches, says the move shows a total disregard for ladies’ football in the county and that there were other options available for the mens’ quarter final.
