Kerry County Councillors are considering the Local Property Tax rate for 2021.
Each council can vary the basic rate by a maximum of 15%, and last year the base rate in Kerry increased by 10%.
CEO of the council Moira Murell asked councillors to retain last year's rate, saying she's mindful not to increase the rate given what people have experienced this year.
She says COVID-19 will result in a drop of €10.6 million in local income for Kerry County Council; in addition the council will also have increased expenditure requirements next year estimated at €3 million.
Cllr Michael O'Shea has proposed the rate be decreased from last year to a 7.5% increase in the base rate, while Cllr Deirdre Ferris proposed the council revert to the base rate.
The meeting is ongoing and councillors will vote on these proposals.
