A Kerry County Councillor says the Tenant Purchase Scheme needs to be remodelled.
Independent councillor Maura Healy Rae is calling on the council to write to the Department of Housing to ask for the scheme to be looked at.
She says if it was remodelled it would allow for a greater take up of applicants.
Cllr Maura Healy Rae says there are issues that need to be looked at and says she's aware of pensioners who can't buy their properties now, but says they could have during their employment.
She says up to 80% of applicants will not qualify under the current conditions of the Tenant Purchase Scheme.
