A Kerry county councillor says the planned development of Moneypoint is a game changer for the Shannon Estuary.
The ESB has launched a plan to develop a major renewable energies hub off the Kerry and Clare coasts, which will include converting the existing power station at Moneypoint.
Cllr Michael Foley says the creation of 600 new jobs during construction will be of great benefit to North Kerry as many currently travel across the ferry to Clare for employment.
The Fine Gael councillor adds the potential of the Shannon Estuary has been falling on deaf ears for many years, and he hopes this announcement will highlight that potential.
