A Kerry County Councillor says there's an onus on the local authority to help pubs and restaurants operate outdoors over the summer.
Cllr Jimmy Moloney says the council needs to support Kerry businesses this summer rather than hinder them with the current regulations and planning laws.
The Fianna Fáil councillor says regulations should be relaxed to allow businesses take over footpaths and parking spaces and install canopies and awnings where possible.
He added the majority of pub and restaurant owners just want to open up in a safe manner, and the council should give them the option of doing so.
