A Kerry County Councillor is offering a €1,000 reward for information leading to the prosecution of those that set fire to Killarney National Park.
Earlier this year, Sinn Féin councillor Cathal Foley requested that Kerry County Council offer rewards for information on wild fires taking place throughout Kerry.
The council said it cannot do this, so he is now personally offering the reward for information on the fire in the park over the weekend.
Cllr Foley says if damage were done to the Book of Kells, there would be a major criminal investigation.
He's calling for the damage done to Killarney National Park to be treated the same.
Meanwhile, Cathaoirleach of Kerry County Council, Patrick O'Connor Scarteen, says whatever resources are needed to investigate the cause of the fire, should be given so that this never happens again.
