A Kerry county councillor is calling for the grant for hoists to be reinstated for elderly people and people with disabilities living at home.
Fianna Fáil councillor John Francis Flynn says 10 months ago hoists were removed from this grant, adding this has brought hardship to many families.
Cllr Flynn says it’s caused people to struggle in their own homes and others have had to put loved ones into nursing homes a result.
He says having the hoist covered by grant aid is vital in keeping elderly people in their own homes.
Cllr Flynn says it’s unclear which department has responsibility for this issue.
Radio Kerry News has contacted the Departments of Health and Housing.
The health department says the query falls under the remit of the Department of Housing and that the latter body is preparing a response.
