Kerry County Council is to move to an online system where housing applicants can view council houses on offer and say if they want to be considered for them.
An online version of the Choice Based Letting system is already in place in Cork, and Kerry’s council intends to implement a similar one, but this has been delayed due to COVID-19.
The details were revealed following a question from Independent Cllr Jackie Healy-Rae about when such a system would be put in place.
Kerry County Council says it intends to move to an online Choice Based Letting system for the majority of allocations, except for specific allocations such as adapted units or sheltered accommodation.
Choice Based Letting involves advertising properties among qualifying applicants who would view them and decide if they’re interested in them.
The allocations would then be determined under the Council’s Scheme of Letting Priorities.
Kerry County Council has examined a system developed and in use in Cork County Council.
The implementation of this was delayed due to COVID-19, but Kerry County Council says it remains a priority.
