Kerry County Council has 34 outstanding housing estate bond claims with financial institutions and surety providers totalling almost €4 million. (€3,919,537.)
These figures, which are as of the end of June this year, were presented to Independent councillor Johnny Healy Rae at the monthly meeting of Kerry County Council.
Cllr Heay Rae asked the council for an update on what bonds are outstanding for housing estates and how long these are claimed.
In response to Cllr Johnny Healy Rae’s motion, the council said of the 34 outstanding bonds, 11 of were claimed in the last five years and the remainder were claimed during 2009-2015.
It says over the past three years there has been a 68% reduction in the number of outstanding claims; in 2018 Kerry County Council had 109 outstanding claims with a value of €9,222,264.
The council says it continues to pursue the non-payment and resolution of bond claims that are outstanding, adding many of the more problematical estates have now been dealt with.
Processes and procedures are also in place to minimise against the risk of financial exposure to the local authority; the council says a valid costed claim is submitted before the bond expires and says good progress continues to be made in resolving outstanding bond claims with its larger bond holders, which include AIB and Liberty Insurance.
Kerry County Council added it will continue to pursue all outstanding claims.
