A Kerry county councillor has asked the council to monitor the condition of roads before and after forestry companies extract timber.
Fianna Fáil's Fionnán Fitzgerald made the call at the recent Castleisland and Corca Dhuibhne Municipal District meeting.
Kerry County Council said forestry companies are not required to register with the local authority when they harvest.
It says Coillte voluntarily publishes harvesting plans on a five-year cycle.
However, no such harvesting plan notifications are in place for private forestry plantations, which is the predominant type of plantation in Kerry.
