Kerry Airport says there's been no formal discussions with Ryanair despite the airline announcing it is to launch a Kerry-Dublin flight later this month.
The statement adds further confusion to the future operation of the route.
The Kerry-Dublin flight was previously operated by Stobart Air under a €4 million Government-subsided PSO contract, until it collapsed last month.
Last Friday, Transport Minister Eamon Ryan announced Ryanair would be taking over the Kerry-Dublin flight on a commercial basis but, the airline branded the statement premature and inaccurate.
Yesterday Ryanair confirmed it will indeed launch the service on July 28th and hopes to make it viable for the long term.
Fine Gael councillor, Jim Finucane thinks the disagreement was semantics and the Government should thank Ryanair for taking over the route.
He believes the move could provide more opportunities for the Farranfore base:
However, the confusion over the future of the Kerry-Dublin flight was compounded today with a statement from Kerry Airport.
It says there's been no formal discussion between the airport and Ryanair about the new service and, to borrow the airline's own phrase, branded yesterday's announcement both premature and inaccurate.
Kerry Airport hasn't been informed of any schedule details and, at present, cannot confirm or otherwise whether these flights will in fact operate.
