Kerry Airport will play a part in the county’s economic recovery.
That’s according to CEO of Kerry Airport, John Mulhern, who was speaking despite CSO figures showing passenger numbers have dropped by 99% between April and June and July’s are expected to be down 80%.
In recent days, Ryanair removed the Manchester and Berlin routes to Kerry for September and October, while the Alicante summer route will end earlier than planned on Monday.
Mr Mulhern says the past few months have been the toughest in the airport’s history; Ryanair cancelled almost all flights, staff were not on the Temporary Wage Subsidy Scheme and ongoing restrictions on non-Green List countries have affected the airport.
He says the majority of employees have been kept on with government support through the PSO route, however, it’s an evolving situation.
