A new sewerage plant in Kenmare won't be completed for another three years.
Independent councillor Johnny Healy-Rae requested an update on the plant at the recent Kenmare Municipal District meeting.
In its response, Irish Water said the project is currently at the detailed design stage, and plans to submit a planning application and Environmental Impact Assessment Report later this year.
The reply added the current anticipated construction completion date is Q3, 2024.
Cllr Healy-Rae stated the current sewerage scheme in Kenmare is stifling development in the area, and the town will lose people as a result.
