All councillors in the Kenmare Municipal District are calling for St Mary of the Angels to be protected for future generations.
The Kenmare MD councillors brought a joint motion before the monthly meeting of Kerry County Council.
Parents and relatives of residents of St Mary of the Angels in Beaufort recently outlined serious concerned they have regarding the future of the facility.
St Mary of the Angels is home to 76 people who are severely and profoundly physically and intellectually disabled.
Concerns were raised by relatives recently, after it emerged the current service provider, St John of God Community Services, may have to sell off their assets and properties to meet their debts.
At the monthly meeting of Kerry County Council, the Kenmare MD councillors asked the council to call on all relevant authorities to protect the centre from any possible sale that would threaten its function as a residential centre for the care, education and development of its residents.
They said the facility must be secured for all who live there and for future generations.
They also acknowledged a recent meeting that took place between Minister for Education Norma Foley, Minister of State with responsibility for Disability Anne Rabbitte, Deputy Brendan Griffin and representatives from St Mary of the Angels.
