Kenmare businesses and sporting organisations are fearful of further flooding in the town.
Two schemes were announced over the past week, following extensive flooding in Kenmare which caused thousands of euro worth of damage.
Last week, the Office of Public Works said plans for the multi-million euro Kenmare Flood Relief Scheme are progressing, however, it’s expected to take 12-18 months before a planning application can be submitted.
Last evening, Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment Leo Varadkar announced emergency funding of up to €20,000 for businesses and organisations in Kenmare affected by the flooding.
Maurice Moroney of The Horseshoe Bar, which suffered damage worth €6,000 last week, said the investment is timely, but action to combat flooding is needed immediately.
Colin Coady, Honorary Secretary of Inter Kenmare, says the club grounds were damaged by the flooding last week, the second time in five months.
He adds the source of the problem needs to be identified.
