Legal challenges are set to begin today to An Bord Pleanála's decision to grant permission for the South Kerry Greenway project and accompanying Compulsory Purchase Order.
The cases will come before the High Court later this morning.
In January, Mr Justice Richard Humphreys granted permission in the High Court for two separate judicial reviews of the An Bord Pleanála decision.
The first is lodged by environmentalist Peter Sweetman from Rossport, Co Mayo and James Clifford a farmer from Killurley West, Caherciveen.
Mr Sweetman claims the granting of permission contravenes the EU Habitats Directive and Mr Clifford raises specific concerns about the decision to omit two sections of the greenway and how this will impact on his land.
The second application is from the Greenway Information Group, which is made up of some landowners whose holdings will be affected by the proposed 32-kilometre greenway from Glenbeigh to Renard.
The hearings are set to begin today and run until Friday.
