An area of South Kerry has secured an award to develop creativity and the arts.

Iveragh has been chosen to receive one of the seven national Arts Council 'Creative Places' Awards, which will bring an additional €40,000 to the area for the development of arts.

The awards are given by the Arts Council to places which had not benefitted from sustained arts investment in the past, in order to build arts programmes which will benefit local communities.

Partners in the successful Iveragh application include Comhchoiste Gaeltacht Uíbh Ráthaigh, Kerry County Council, Ealaín na Gaeltachta, the South Kerry Development Partnership, Éigse na Brídeoige and Tascfhórsa Uíbh Ráthaigh.

The Creative Places Uíbh Ráthach project will consult directly with the local population, across all ages and interests, to explore the potential and resources needed for planning and programming the arts in the area.
