An Ireland South MEP says equal pay for equal work must be achieved.
Fine Gael MEP Deirdre Clune has welcomed the European Commission proposal on pay transparency, which will ensure women and men in the EU get equal pay for equal work.
She says at the current rate it would take over 250 years to completely close the earning gap between men and women.
Currently women are paid 14.1% less than men across the EU.
MEP Deirdre Clune says these proposals can go some way to helping women in the workplace, but adds the efforts must be continued.
