Signs have been placed at the shores of Lough Leane in Killarney following the detection of increased levels of algae.
Kerry County Council says between May and September, an algal bloom or dark scum may appear on, or close to the shoreline of the lake.
People are being advised to exercise caution along the lakeshore, and avoid any contact with the bloom/scum, as it may cause skin irritation.

The council says dogs are particularly sensitive to these blooms, and so should be kept away from the water and shoreline scums at Lough Leane.
