It's hoped high-speed fibre broadband will be brought to some homes in Killarney before the end of 2021.
Works are now underway in Killarney as part of the rollout of the government's National Broadband Plan.
National Broadband Ireland has surveyed over 3,382 premises in Killarney with network designs completed.
The NBI has already started initial works in townlands such as Muckross, Nunstown, and Oldforge, while works started in Tralee last month.
The Plan also includes the provision of local broadband connection points at facilities such as sports clubs, community centres and tourist sites for free public access to high-speed broadband.
