The High Court has refused to ask the European Court of Justice if the inclusion of the Shannon LNG project on the EU Projects of Common Interest list is valid.
The proposed €500 million liquified natural gas terminal on the Tarbert/Ballylongford landbank is on the list, but the programme for government states it’s now to be withdrawn from it.
The case was taken by Friends of the Irish Environment and focused on how a decision was made at European level to include the project on the list.
However, the High Court refused to make a reference to the European court saying it didn’t have the jurisdiction.
