Gardai are investigating an incident at a school in Ballybunion, in which a garden designed for children with special needs was vandalised.
A member of staff at Scoil Iosagain primary school, discovered the damage as the school re-opened yesterday for the return of some pupils at their autism unit.
The damage was mostly inside the polytunnel, where sandbags were opened, plants were knocked over and gardening equipment was disturbed.
There was also evidence that people had been drinking alcohol and smoking in the polytunnel.
Principal of the school Ita Kelly Walsh said the incident was very upsetting for the whole school community, as a huge amount of work went into setting up and running the sensory garden.
She said considerable fundraising was done to get the project up and running, and it was a very popular facility for the pupils in the Autism Spectrum Disorder classes.
Gardai in Listowel are investigating.
