Gardaí in Tralee are investigating all of the circumstances surrounding the discovery of a man’s body in Castlemaine yesterday.
The deceased man was in his 80's and from the locality.
Gardaí were called to a residence in the Castlemaine area yesterday morning, where the body of a man in his 80s was discovered. He was pronounced deceased at the scene and removed to the mortuary at University Hospital Kerry. Its believed he died from a shotgun injury.
The scene is preserved for technical examination. Both the State Pathologist and local Coroner have been notified.
Gardai say the results of a post-mortem examination will assist Gardaí in determining the course of the investigation.
It's understood that the post mortem is scheduled to take place in UHK today.
