Former Kerry Fianna Fail TD John Brassil is to be appointed Vice Chair of a regional jobs taskforce for the Shannon Estuary.
Mr Brassil, who lost his seat in the last general election, has been asked to take up the role on the taskforce, which is to be announced shortly.
Former Fine Gael Leader and Minister for Finance Michael Noonan will chair the group which is part of a commitment in the programme for government to develop the jobs and economic potential of the estuary.
It's understood the task force will cover Clare Limerick and Kerry .
Mr Brassil was chairman of the Shannon Development for a number of years before it was amalgamated into the Shannon Group in 2014.
Responding to queries from Radio Kerry about an expected announcement of the creation of the task force, the Department of Enterprise Trade and Employment said the Programme for Government has made important commitments for the Shannon Estuary and surrounding area.
Terms of Reference for the Taskforce are being finalised and an announcement can be expected shortly
