A status orange rainfall warning will remain in place for Kerry until 9 o'clock tonight.

Around 50 millimetres of rain has fallen in the county since last evening leading to poor driving conditions with surface water and spot flooding reported around the county.

Kerry County Council says the N72 road is now passable at Fossa village but extreme care is advised.

The N72 from the Laune Bridge in Killorglin to Fossa is flooded and is best avoided; the road at Ballymalis is closed due to rising floodwaters.

Water is also high at Listry Bridge which is blocking the road from Milltown to Killarney.

Motorists travelling from Killorglin to Killarney should divert via Milltown and Farranfore on the N22.

Elsewhere, the following local and minor roads are currently impassable: L6047 Ballingare road in north Kerry, L2004 Ardfert to Listrim road and the L7501 Coolbane near the Woolen Mills.

Kerry County Council is urging people to avoid unnecessary journeys as rain continues to fall around the county.

The council says an emergency line is available on 066 7183588 if you need to report any flooding problems or weather-related issues or if you need the assistance of Council staff.
