The first in-person citizenship ceremonies since the outbreak of the pandemic in March 2020 are to take place in Killarney today.
Two events will be held at the INEC to welcome 950 people as they become Irish citizens.
Some 1,300 applicants were invited to today’s in-person ceremony in Killarney and some 950 accepted.
They’ll be become Irish citizens at two ceremonies, one at 10.45am, the second at 1.45pm at the INEC in Killarney, hosted by Minister for Justice, Helen McEntee.
Retired High Court Judge, Mr Justice Bryan McMahon and Retired District Court Judge, Mr Paddy McMahon will preside over one ceremony each.
These are the first in-person citizenship ceremonies since the outbreak of Covid-19 in March 2020.
In July 2020, Ireland was the first European country to host an e-citizenship ceremony, and this was followed by three online celebrations last year.
Planning for additional in-person ceremonies in December this year in Killarney is currently underway.
